about us

- ethos -

Our practices are designed to make gardening as simple and sustainable as possible.

They are based on Masanobu Fukuoka's Natural Farming or Do Nothing Farming, which keeps interference in the natural ecosystem to a minimum

Often people set up gardens that have to be weeded every weekend and as soon as they  fall a little bit behind it gets wild and overwhelming and the joy is gone. They buy lots of tools and gadgets when really we just need to use our hands most of the time.

What if we didn't set ourselves up for failure?

When we set up your veggie garden we make a plan with you about what you want it to produce,, what you like eating, how much time you have to give to it weekly, what is suitable for your soil and climate , and how much you want to spend.

We start with the soil because nutritionally poor soil is never going to be productive. We help re-establish the balance of nutrients and insects so that the plants and soil are continually supporting one another and growing stronger and healthier each season.

We use methods to reduce the amount of weeds that will pop up. But we also look at what weeds are growing. Weeds are always telling a story about what's happening below the surface, what's over-abundant, what's lacking, and what might need adjusting.

- our story -

Osiris Gardens was founded and is run by Sylvia Lauris based on 7 years of experience working on organic farms across Aotearoa, Australia, and Japan.  She has a degree in Ecology and Biodiversity, and has undertaken extensive self-driven study and practice into a variety of methods of farming in harmony with nature.
We are based in the Easter suburbs of Te Whanganui-ā-Tara, Wellington and work across the region.
